Samsung 's Dual SIM 3G Touchscreen Phone Spotted

Samsung has quite a bunch of dual SIM phones in its arsenal. However, what was missing all this while was a 3G capable dual SIM phone - that too a touchscreen.

Well, that was until now because Samsung has unveiled a new handset, the Samsung B7722/B7702, its latest touchscreen phone targeted at the Asian, European and the African markets. While the model numbers are different, there are just two variants of the same phone with the B7702 likely to head towards the Chinese market and the B7722 to the rest of the world. The fact that these two models indicate the same phone can be verified from the Bluetooth SIG website here.

As for the features on this one, it will obviously support EDGE and HSDPA connectivity, a 3.2 inch touchscreen display with a rather unusual pixel count of 240 x 432 pixels . Then there is Wi-Fi, social networking services, FM radio, and a 5MP camera cramped in as well.

When launched, the Samsung B7722 / B7702 is expected to be priced at around the $400 mark. The launch could be as soon as in June.

Samsung debuts Two New Laptops, Netbook

Samsung has updated its 2010 mobile computer line-up with one new netbook and two business-class notebooks. The new Samsung NB30 Pro is based on the NB30 netbook model launched earlier this year. The two new notebooks are P80 Premium and P30 Essential. Meant for the professional audience, these notebooks will be made available in a few days from Samsung product resellers.

Sprint EVO 4G is Fastest Smartphone

The HTC EVO 4G is about to hit Sprint's network on June 4 and will be the first 4G smartphone. That impressive distinction and its stellar hardware spec have earned it the reputation of being the smartphone of the summer to buy. Pre-orders for the phone just began at Best Buy and Radio Shack, but already a couple of early reviews by Engadget's Chris Ziegler and All Things Digital's Walt Mossberg (who also writes for The Wall Street Journal) have shown up on the internet.

The basic summary of the early reviews is this. The 4G is faster than anything you've seen, but it's spotty and a battery draw. The phone is overall above the competition with its super fast data speeds, simultaneous voice/data when on 4G, huge screen, mini-HDMI connector, and impressive camera. However, there's some minor quality concerns. But a couple of special features -- Wi-Fi connectivity, high speed YouTube, and video chat elevate the phone potentially to must buy status.

Turning first to the packaging which is "resembling a microwaveable meal", according to Engadget, green shoppers will enjoy that the packaging is recycled and comes with a recycling envelope. Also packed inside is the Micro-USB cable, USB wall charger, a 1500mAh battery, 8GB microSD card and the phone itself.

Turning to the hardware and build quality, both reviews praised the massive 4.3" screen, which is only matched by HTC's own HTC HD2 (powered on the stale Windows Mobile 6.5). That lead might not last for long, though given that the Motorola Shadow/Mirage phone is supposed to pack a 4.3" screen and be released by mid-year. Still for now, the screen is about the best you'll get -- better than the current generation iPhone, certainly.

Engadget complains that the phone is "beefier" than the HD2 or Nexus One. And Walt Mossberg gripes, "The phone is heavy."

There's also some light leakage out the bottom of the phone and HTC strangely has designed the phone to rest directly on the camera lens glass, which could lead to scratches for those who do not protect their phones in a case. Inside, the memory card is a bit hard to replace as its under the battery and uses a strange latching mechanism. The EVO shares the fire engine red underbody of the HTC Droid Incredible on Verizon.

Overall both reviewers said the build quality, despite the minor shortcomings, is excellent. Among the hot features is the kickstand, which Engadget lauds "positive (sic) spring loaded action and feels like it's made of solid metal"

Turning next to the camera, it receives a lot of praise in the Engadget review, which says that it features an extremely fast shutter speed, even with auto-focus. They like that you can switch between MPEG4 and H.264 video modes, but criticize HTC's liberal compression of high-def video.

One app that raised the phone up a notch was the YouTube HQ app which features impressive full-screen videos that are loaded fast, thanks to the speedy network. Another highly valuable app is Sprint's Hotspot app which is extremely easy to use (more on the speed later). Finally, Qik-powered two-way video chat app is also expected to be a hot edition, but it wasn't ready for review quite yet.

A burning question likely on your mind -- how does the 4G work? Well apparently in the limited number of cities with coverage, its very fast if you can get it. Endgadget reports getting "WiFi-like speed" (7.5Mbps down and nearly 3Mbps up, 3.5 Mbps average up) while being able to make calls over CDMA.

Similarly, Walt Mossberg says his tests show speeds of 1 to 4 mbps, compared to 1Mbps down for the iPhone on AT&T or 2 Mbps down for the HTC Droid Incredible on Verizon. However Mossberg warns, "[W]hen using 4G, the EVO’s battery runs down alarmingly fast."

Battery life is a reoccurring concern. It isn't horrible, but it apparently isn't great. If you plan on tethering, you might want to plug in your phone to prevent battery drain over long sessions. Another concern Engadget raises is that HTC has been slow pushing out updates so there's a chance the Flash-packing Android 2.2 "Froyo" update could be slow coming to the phone. App memory capacity (only 358 MB of 9 GB for third party apps) is yet another concern.

Samsung Omnia HD2 with Symbian^3 sneak peak for the first time

If you thought that Samsung Omnia HD was the best HD mobile from Sammy Boys, you were wrong. Mobile-Review Forum member sberberov located in Bulgaria has posted an image and details of Omnia HD 2 i8920. This Omnia HD successor is speculated to come loaded with Symbian^3 mobile operating system. We are more than interested to see the HD performance of the same.

Samsung i8920 Omnia HD 2 will have a massive 4-inch Super AMOLED (Active-Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) display. However, that would still be small as compared to the
recently announced HTC EVO 4G smartphone. Still, it would lead over the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD which has a 3.7-inch display. We don't know how super would be the 4-inch Super AMOLED display but hope that it is comfortably viewable in sunlight.

The leaked Omnia HD 2 will have a 12 megapixel camera with Xenon and LED Flash. This camera sensor would be capable enough for recording 720p HD video at 30 frames per second. This phone sport Bluetooth 3.0, GPS and will support Wi-Fi (b/g/n). Omnia HD 2 can come in two storage options 16GB or 32GB internal memory.

Whatever happened to plans for bada OS for smartphones! As of now,a there's just one leaked image and not all details are clear so far. But looking that the specifications mentioned, this Omnia model would surely burn hole in your pocket.

All three phones are 3G-enabled and fall in mid-range price bracket.
Nokia 6700 Slide is yet another 3G enabled handset which was deemed to be made available last year but is being officially introduced now. Do not confuse Nokia 6700 Slide with Nokia 6700 Classic. This phone comes with Symbian S60 9.3 third edition with feature pack 2. With 60MB internal memory, this phone can hold up to 16GB usable to store music and video. Olive FrvrOn V-G2300 Mobile Phone with AAA battery

Most mobile enthusiasts would be all gung-ho about the umpteen phones bestowed with super-advanced features. Nevertheless, there’s still something about the basic handsets that holds the attention of many. Minus any frills and fancies, they seem to offer communication to the best of their capabilities. And not many manufacturers these days can claim to center their focus on this category of mobile phones presently particularly with the advent of enhanced platforms. Olive for one had us begging to differ as the company brought to India a slew of interesting products. Among the mobile phones, we earlier analyzed the OlivePwrr Dual-SIM phone. This time around we’ve managed to lay our hands on the Olive FrvrOn V-G2300. Here’s an in-depth review.

With claims of being India’s premier hybrid mobile phone that also functions on AAA batteries, we couldn’t wait to detail this one out. Launched early last month, the phone’s feature gazette popped out quite some interesting attributes we must say. This included a 1.5” color display, integrated FM radio, stereo headset, speaker phone and enclosed AAA batteries. The company backs it up by a 1 year warranty while also supplementing it with a headset, a travel charger and user manual. Opening the box revealed the very small black colored phone, the tiny size of which actually took us by surprise. The phone tips the scale at about 250gms making it super light and compact.

Considering it was an entry-level handset, the appearance of the phone was quite good. Adorning a simple plastic chassis, the phone bears a simplistic and bare look. Its slightly concave back panel reveals semicircular patterns and gets a thumbs up for adding to the phone’s distinct appearance. The handset’s compact candy bar fabrication shows off a tiny screen with the Olive logo inked just below it. Moving a little further down the logo takes you to the rubberized keypad complete with four main buttons counting a yellow call answer and a red call end button. Between the four buttons is the eye-catching circular navigation pad with a red scrubbing in the ring. The left, right, up and down keys of the pad can be assigned shortcuts of desired functions.

As we moved in on ticking Menu, we were rather enthused to find a very simple and uncluttered interface. Each function in the interface appeared as if seated in raised boxlike buttons. Featuring a 200 contacts capacity, if you must you can even adjust the call waiting, forwarding and barring options as per your liking through the basic network service function. While the Messaging attribute is enabled for both simple text messages and voice mail, Call Records should give you a daily dope on calls you may have missed, received or dialed. As instantly as we spotted FM Radio we hopped onto it and might we say were very disappointed with the radio reception. Adding to the woes was a manual frequency setting complemented by a low-quality loudspeaker. In fact with the loudspeaker on, it was more like a din than listening to music.

Profile settings can be toggled between Standard, Conference, Outdoor, Mute and My Style. On the application front, the phone bundles in two games, Tetris and Sudoku. While there was nothing different about Sudoku, Tetris had us reminiscing over the past gaming scenario though now with colored bricks. There’s also a wide range of polyphonic ringtones incorporated though we didn’t fancy being pleased with the sound of those overtly loud tones. The colored display though tiny at 1.5” astonished us in a way with its wide list of settings. The LCD contrast of the screen can be tweaked to a maximum of 10 while three wallpaper and theme settings can also be chosen from. The handset supports English, Hindi, French and Indonesian languages. Basic applications such as Alarm, Calculator, Calendar, Memo, Stopwatch and Time Zone are also onboard.

In terms of performance, the call reception of the phone was quite respectable. Also the rubberized keypad quite kept our fingers busy as we were engrossed in comfortable text conversations. The highlight of the phone was the supplemented AAA batteries that can be inserted in a slot just next to the phone battery. With both batteries together, the phone displays two charge statuses in the display’s top right corner. The green one signifies the AAA battery. You can’t use both batteries simultaneously and obviously the AAA batteries have been added for advantage in case of emergency situations where charging the phone may be next to impossible. When the phone is low on battery, all you have to do is insert the AAA batteries and you’re ready to go. On doing so, the battery status of the Li-on battery quickly enters in charge mode. With just the Li-ion battery the phone may need to be charged at the end of the day on heavy usage, though traditionally its three hour talktime should suffice.

In perspective, the phone is a neat bundle of virtually everything needed in a basic handset. Pure communication lovers should be drawn towards it particularly if they don’t fancy spending too much on a mobile phone. The phone comes without any additional baggage and sits well in the entry-level mobile market. The handset gets 8.2 out of 10 on our scorecard. Its price tag at Rs. 1,600 only with a one-year warranty seems to make it even more alluring.
